A Scholar Story
Entry 1
Post War Year 1 Month 1 Day 1

Tonight I write this journal at the beginning of a New Era. I cannot possibly describe in written words on how I feel. So much has happened to quickly, and with such a radical turn of events. I write this Journal, not in the expected acclamation of unity of the Allied Forces, finally bringing the Beastmen to, as the late Professor Schultz would say, a checkmate, but instead… I write this in fear, in despair, and out of betrayal.

My country of Bastok – along with the other nations of the Allied Forces – have turned their backs on me, on Scholars. With the victory of a Great War, the peace that should come after has not. The council has proclaimed us Scholars to be a “necessary evil” and have since placed bounties on our heads.

My only hope in writing this is that in my almost inevitable demise, someone will cross this and realize what had happened. That they could see, through my eyes, through the eyes of a Scholar, what we have done to protect these nations of Altana and our reward of Banishment is vastly unjust.

I will head out tonight with the cover of the nights shade with my trusty Chocobo; Idaten Lavande. I don’t know where I am going or what I will do, but I do know that if I stay here, in Bastok, my capture and death will be sooner than I would like. Most fellow Scholars have already left town and I believe I am the last of us to leave. I would pray to Altana for their safety but with all I have seen, with all I have heard, Altana is not the one to be prayed to.
